BUSINESS PROCESS REENGINEERING

"The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it."

Michelangelo

Business process reengineering (often referred to by the acronym BPR) is the main way in which organizations become more efficient and modernize. Business process reengineering transforms an organization in ways that directly affect performance.

The two cornerstones of any organization are the people and the processes. The enabling factors, such as technology, must be aligned to support (and not drive) the processes. If individuals are motivated and working hard, yet the business processes are cumbersome and introduce non-essential activities, or lack interoperable systems and information - organizational performance will suffer as a result.

BPR is a key component to transforming how people work. What on the surface appear to be minor changes in processes can have dramatic effects on your organizations effectiveness and efficiency. Even the act of documenting business processes alone will typically improve organizational efficiency by 10%.

COMPENDIUM can help Agencies achieve their Business Process Reengineering (BPR) efforts by using Capabilities-Based Process Improvement techniques to identify critical processes, determine if customer requirements are being met, improve broken processes, estimate potential savings, and employ statistical tools to validate the results.

COMPENDIUM has several Six Sigma Certified professionals (from Green Belt to Master Black Belt) ready to assist with any reengineering effort. These individuals bring a wealth of experience, with several of the individuals having more than 10+ years of BPR experience each.

Almost every one of our engagements has involved some level of process reengineering. The techniques used include process flowcharting, control charts, brainstorming, benchmarking, affinity diagramming, and the 8-step problem solving model (unique to the Air Force Smart Operations-21 [AFSO21] Program), and have produced savings in the millions of dollars on individual efforts.

COMPENDIUM consultants have performed as BPR experts and leads for the Air Force Undersecretary of Management (SAF/USM) and the Chief Information Officer (CIO). Our consultants work shoulder-to-shoulder with our AF counterparts to support the NDAA 2010 BPR Assertion Review Process for all programs over $1M. This review is a critical component of the overall AF IT Investment compliance review process.

More information about specific engagements where COMPENDIUM has delivered BPR results that make a difference is available upon request.
